This is the first photo-chronical book of Tbilisi at the turn of the century. The city intrigued everybody by its sparkling picturesqueness, manifested both in outlook and mode of life. The earliest photos of the city date back to the 1850's. They tell us of the streets, squares, houses, that no longer exist. they bring to life important events in the life of the town, show representatives of various social strata, acquaint us with Tbilisi at the "folklore level", its bazaar, trade and artisans' shops. Included also is the public life and culture of Tbilisi. Text and captions in Georgian, Russian and English.
